Tom makes very valid points and its good to see doubtful numbers being challenged. Exaggerating numbers never help an argument. Also, I'd challenge the notion that property cited in the Butts in Brentford has dropped its price due to the mansion tax. It was initially on at £4m+ and it is now on the market at £3.5m. So far so accurate. But the claim that the price drop is solely and directly due to the proposed mansion tax? Seems like a speculative and biased view. Another view is that no property has sold for more than £3.2m in Brentford, ever. And that one also has a pool, many rooms, period features, wine cellar, etc. Oh, and a better location. So perhaps its much more likely that the asking price drop is much more to do with realism and levels of interest rather than a yet to happen mansion tax. There is too much guessing and dubious figures kicking around this claim that a mansion tax is all bad. The exaggerated claims are now making me think that those so dead set against the mansion tax are pushing on this issue to simply protect their own pockets... (PS, its all irrelevant as the tories will get back in.) |
