Oh and Guy, the Labour Fact 5 on the 'Facts about mansion tax' is completely wrong. Foreign owners of mansions who are trying to avoid tax have already been caught by ATED, the Annual Tax on Enveloped Dwellings. The tax paid is as follows: Property value between £1m and £2m = £7,000 per year Value between £2m and £5m = £23,350 per year and so on... in a very progressive way. Interestingly, from 1 April 2016 a further band will come into effect for properties with a value greater than £500,000 but not more than £1 million, with an annual charge of £3,500 ATED is 'mansion tax' already being applied to foreign owned homes. And it shows very succinctly what is in store for all British home owners. |
