"And why should council tax not be reformed .." Been there, done that in the 1980s. Local Rates>Community Charge>Council Tax. Next bright idea....? Remember, the council tax is meant to he a charge for services provided (or sometimes not provided, if you live in LB Hounslow), not a so-called "progressive" tax to even out inequalities of wealth - that is where income tax comes in. The central government block grant to cover shortfalls in council income from council tax is meant to even out the discrepancies between better-off and poorer areas in a "progressive" way. |
