Three very easy answers to your defense of the mansion tax policy: 1) A 1991 value of £320k is about the same as a 2015 value of £2m, so the top council tax rate is only paid by 'mansions' anyway regardless of if it's based on 1991 or 2015 values. Council tax being out of date is deliberate subterfuge 2) The 'quick and dirty fix that is mansion tax' isn't actually a fax. £1.2bn take away £2.0bn doesn't leave anything for any fixes! 3) Thank you for your advise that now may be a good time for me to sell my modest family home (a 'mansion'), however as you may have noticed these homes are currently unsaleable due to the threat of a millstone sized £25,000 a year tax bill they will have under a Labour government. Also, and on a personal note, my children still live at home and I haven't worked all my life to suddenly deprive them of a back garden just when they're getting the hang of playing football. You appear to be under the mistaken belief that every family home in B&I is owned by an A list celebrity who deserves to be taxed until they bleed from the nose. This simply isn't the case. Are your responses the official answer to mansion tax from Ruth? |
