That's option 2b or 3b, which also has the Harvard Hill portal, added to two tightly curved, steep tunnels down from the A316, one through the graveyard, one through the Hogarth Business Park (I'm guessing they hadn't noticed it being redeveloped). The report points out that the more junctions you have the more expensive it is and the more surface impact you have: ' The main tunnel portal locations are as stated in option 2a. Additional portals will be located in the following locations to accommodate the junctions linking the tunnel with North and South links: A316 Burlington Lane to Central London (both ways) Shepherds Bush Road to Heathrow Fulham Palace Road to Heathrow ... It is likely due to the narrow roadways that some properties will need to be purchased to make room to accommodate the junction portals. ... Portal locations will be the focus of the construction disruption; however this is likely to be increased with the additional junction locations to accommodate the North-South traffic flows. Junctions are very disruptive and expensive, with 150m portal plus another 150m of cut and cover.' It also needs 250,000 lorry movements due to the much wider tunnels under the river. |
