That was the original Ringway 2 idea, but the 1980s studies David Giles is curiously reticent about the origins of considered it, along with the motorway tunnel to Wandsworth. Essentially these are all isotopes of the same fundamental problem - too much traffic wants to get from the west to the inner south west, where there are no railway lines and only a partial road network (the orbital bit is much lower standard than the main road in). It therefore either goes M4/A4/Earls Court or M4/Chiswick/South Circular. Both of Boris's local roadbuilding plans are on these routes, suggesting a) that TfL think more traffic is coming to it and b) they aren't planning to try and stop this happening. This, I suggest, is very worrying for our environment. Anyway, can we have the M4 bus lane back now, please? |
