"Article in the Evening Standard online says motorist will have to pay a toll of about two pounds. Marvellous, now what % will use King Street/CHR to save money do you think? Lots or everyone?" I laughed when I heard Boris had been backed into admitting that all TfL's road tunnel plans are tolled. This ought to kill it, certainly as far as Chiswick is concerned. Either there's a very short tunnel under Hammersmith for which you're charged £2 or you can go round the gyratory, or there's a very long tunnel which, because much of the A4 traffic joins or leaves in the middle, has an untolled surface road over it for cheapskates to use. So, for our £1bn+ we get congested roads over an empty tunnel with hideous concrete portals at each end with the occasional rich bloke's limo in it, which for all I know is the point of this whole doohickey. There's an easier way to do transport planning that doesn't involve importing failed schemes from the USA. |
