If Boris is doing a tour of hugely over-budget and delayed US construction projects, as well as Boston he should visit Seattle where their Tunnel Boring Machine has now been stuck for over a year. Looking at the press release for the A4 Hammersmith fly-under it says the "town centre would be reconnected with the River Thames". Well, they aren't going to do that until they sort out the gyratory, and there haven't been any plans as to how they are going to do that. Also it mentions a scheme involving a fly-under at the A316 at Chalkers Corner that will "remove a major pinch point for traffic along the A316". I assume by this it means traffic will save a minute before getting stuck at Hogarth roundabout. Being cynical, the cycle superhighway scheme got approved last week so this announcement has all the signs that Boris has put something out to keep the roads lobby happy so he can say to all the groups who were miffed at the cycle scheme "see - I want to do something for you too!". |
