The previous administration of LBHF published a report on options here: http://www.lbhf.gov.uk/Directory/News/hammersmith_flyunder.asp This referenced 3 schemes, a "short" tunnel that would be a bit longer than the existing flyover and 2 long tunnels with the Chiswick portal being somewhere between Sutton Court Road and Chiswick House grounds. A long portal was the most popular option with LBHF residents. They obviously didn't ask Chiswick residents... I think the long portal option will be still born as there is too much local traffic that wouldn't use the fly-under so they would either have to keep roads on the surface above the fly-under (which defeats the purpose) or push this traffic down Chiswick High Road/King St, and these streets couldn't handle it. Not to mention the opposition there would be from the good people of W4. As I said previously, IMO the gyratory is a bigger issue and they have yet to come up with any solution for links to the north and south to Shepherds Bush and Fulham respectively. |
