"The M4 elevated section is a similar vintage to the Hammersmith flyover and I haven't heard of any options for its future other than continued maintenance and patching up." Having seen the state it was in earlier today does anyone really think that burying the A4 in Hammersmith is the priority here? Quite apart from anything else the Hammersmith Flyover is quite a nice bit of urban architecture in comparison. What's really required, rather than a bunch of architects, a greedy engineering company and a daft council drawing lines is a comprehensive strategy for the whole A4 corridor, including all existing structures and with a view to the number of new people and jobs the area's got to support in the next 20 years or so. Now that really would be visionary. |
