My experience of aircraft noise is current Jonathan, though clearly my knowledge of aircraft types isn't. After googling aircraft images I'd say that the aircraft I was referring too were probably MD-8x series planes. Maybe your tolerance of aircraft noise is higher than mine. Indivuduals vary, and it's suprising what we can get used to. "On our allotment right under the flight path it is very rare for an aircraft to drown out conversation" - but it happens though. How would you regard the noise if your house was on that allotment? That would be the equivalent situation for me, and thousands more, if the 3rd runway goes ahead. The approach path looks to track straight down CHR. I'd say that a fair proportion of those living within about 400m of CHR won't find the noise levels acceptable. And of course things get far worse as you track through Brentford, Osterley, Heston etc. Having listened carefully to aircraft noise levels at appropriate points in Chiswick I believe a 3rd runway will force me to move. Having lived here for a long time I resent that. For those in Grove Park the southern runway is too distant to be a problem, and dependant on whereabouts in Grove Park, the northern might be quite acceptable too. The same might apply to the threat from the 3rd runway as well, considered on its own. However with all day flights on the 3rd and probably the northern too I would be nervous about living in Grove Park, or south of CHR. There are legions of negative consequences of the plan to expand Heathrow, and only paper thin arguments for it, mainly around increased economic activity for BAA/BA. Bad idea. |
