Tim I hadnt realised they do measure the actual noise. But what the govn't ridiculous noise contours do is average the noise out of a year, including the hours when there are no planes overhead. So even though Chiswick is largely outside the 56leq noise contour, the actual noise when a plane is overhead is likely to be in the 70s. I am also confused by Jonathan's comments. Yes if you live by a main road it is quite noisy. But even then it gets quiter in late evening, early mornings, Sundays etc. R3 would see aircraft over head from maybe 6am to 11pm all day, with no respite. People know where the main roads are, but many ppeople moved to west London with no idea they could suddenly find a flight path overhead. |
