Thanks for the very slightly re-assuring but knowledgeable replies Richard and Tom. Jonathan, I'm not sure what your point is other than that the A316 is a noisy road. I've lived in Chis for 30 years and I'm very familiar with aircraft noise levels all over the burb, and with red herrings. Nobody is trying to ban aircraft over Chiswick, but to object to the imposition of new flight paths over new areas of Chiswick. I also object to the expansion of Heathrow on the grounds that: - runway alternation should be maintained for the benefit of those living under the existing flight paths - the recent crash at Heathrow is a reminder of the danger inherent in having long low glide paths over densely poulated areas - CO2 emissions projected for Heathrow will render government targets for reductions in emissions impossible - the taxpayer will doubtless pick up the bill if an expanded Heathrow turns into a white elephant, which if you look at DfT's cost benefit analysis seems quite likely. |
