| Philippa I quoted the ruling in the case you referred to. What are your qualifications and how many acres of land have you managed? The sources I am referring to are the EU report on Glyphosate issued this summer and by the HSE (Health & Safety Executive) The UK gvernments adviser on health and safety. Both concluded that Glyphosate was safe. The HSE suggests using it to prevent trip hazzards on hard surfaces. In banning a substance that is legal the council is making a protest, a boycott, a gesture. It is making no difference to the amount of Glyohosate people are exposed to as it used extensively in food production. It is making neglibible difference to the amount of Glyhosate used in the country for the same reason. The protest is a gesture, but it has a big impact on residents who have streets full of weeds. The aditional resources to make some small, temporary impact on the weeds could be used to plant and manage tubs and baskets, as happens in other Boroughs or to invest in ecological restoration in parks and open spaces. That would improve the environment and increase bio diversity. Do people not notice the difference when they visit neighbouring Boroughs? |
