| What it actually says is "The responsible use of pesticides in amenity areas as part of an integrated programme of control can help deliver substantial benefits for society. These include: management of conservation areas, invasive species and flood risks; access to high quality sporting facilities; and safe public spaces (for example, by preventing weed growth on hard surfaces creating trip hazards), industrial sites and transport infrastructure." That is not the same as saying it is recommend it. We use it sparingly on invasive species but have different means to deal with any trip hazards (we dig the weeds out). Of course some people see a trip hazard whenever they lead the front door and of course some people (me included) do trip inside their own living rooms! Hounslow Highways from time to time have claims for trips and other accidents and they resolve this via their insurance. Because the contract with HH is a PFI it doesn't cost us any different unless we ask them to increase the service. We have asked them this year to allocate more people to weed management and have subsidised some of this. |
