| In the cause of accuracy, Glyphosate is a herbicide not a pesticide. If there has been an increase in insect activity it may have something to do with the pavements being full of weeds, and then again it may not. The vast majority of the weeds I see clogging the footpath do not attract insects. If local authorities really want to help support insect life then they have many opportunities to do so that don't involve letting our streets revert to nature. I'll say it again, councils have a duty to keep the footways free of weeds. If Hounslow Borough is now asking Hounslow Highways to fulfill their obligation using manual methods then they need to fund accordingly and tell us the cost. I expect to see armies of workers dealing with the problem. Much as they may like to Hounslow just can't do nothing, which seems to be where we are at the moment. I would add that as Guy knows well, weeds grow exceptionally abundantly in footpaths that are worn out and broken, but that's another disappointing story I'm afraid. |
