| As Guy has missed your question Adrian, the answer is that litter pickers visit the ward (eg Riverside, Turnham Green etc) every fortnight (schedule on the HHighways web site). Low level weeding is the kind of weeds you and I would find easy to pull up. Still a mammoth task and they don't have time. They are supposed to brush up bits of debris and don't. I have been shouting at HHighways for three years about this lack of sweeping debris and gutters and got nowhere - even when I pointed out that the debris not cleared from gutters is wonderful mulch for the weeds to grow in. The problem is that glyphosate is no longer permitted. So HHighways say quite reasonably that since LBH have decided this then extra money needs to be given to them to do the job. But even though they have, hoing is slow and does not necessarily last that long as the weeds are cut off at ground level and the roots produce more foliage. There is some suspicion I believe that LBH have quietly gone back to glyphosate but who knows. It does seem strange that their streets are so good when surrounding boroughs are full of weeds. |
