| This story is 6 years old and although our officers are in contact with H&F officers I have tried and failed so far to talk to the lead member in H&F. I agree H&F are doing better on weeds and this is something I spend a lot of time and energy on. H&F have the advantage of having about half as much road mileage as we do and about 1/4 of the area. We had a bad experience with weeds last year and have significantly increased the team this year, some thing which we are looking to continue increasing. The methods used by H&F have all been tried by our contractor, Hounslow Highways, and they have found their approaches have little impact on the problem. The solution is resource, and resource is in extreme pressure, especially in Hounslow where our government grants have been more heavily reduced than they were in most other boroughs (don't have the data to hand) Yesterday I was out in Hanworth and Cranford looking at the works of two teams - one of 4 and one of 9 people working away with hoes, brushes and other manual tools on maybe the hottest day of the year so far. I asked the team leader if he thought he had the best tools for the job, He was clear that he had. We will continue working on this. We know there is more to do and we're committed to improve the weed management. |
