| Apologies Kathleen - misnamed you. I had heard a rumour that Hammersmith may have gone back to using Glyphosate but it's just a rumour for me. I'll make another attempt to talk to the lead councillor and get her angle. As Iris says, the arrangement for a few years in Hounslow is to send a team into each ward once a fortnight to do all the roads. This does work for litter (mostly) but not very well for 'detritus' (the gubbins in gutters) and weeds. We are in the middle of changing this approach but it's difficult to implement given that the contract is a 25 year PFI less than 10 years in. Changing it involves terrifying legal costs but we are working closely with H Highways to find a practical adjustment. I often go to wards across the borough and check out how it has worked in wards after their allotted day. I am actually surprised by how well it works. I did look through the 3 Chiswick wards - not comprehensively but by driving around with a colleague looking at the roads we used - early this year and it was OK for litter but patchy for detritus. We also have some council officers who monitor and external assessors also check it once a year. |
