Regardless of whether or not parking tickets have been issued, it seems that, so far, the new Sunday parking restrictions are not working because, according to Simon Tranter, there were lots of cars parked where they shouldn’t be. So, tickets? Probably. Successful Restrictions? No. A friend of mine was over from Chertsey last weekend, and he generally parks in the bus lane when he’s over in the evening. He emailed me the following day saying that he’d seen large signs advising that the bus lane restriction hours had changed but the plate stating ‘No Parking at Anytime’ was tiny and would likely be missed by many people. I’d guess that many drivers would have seen the large signs indicating that there are new bus lane restriction hours and assumed that these new hours related to Mon-Sat. Funny how my friend, just passing by, saw a potential problem immediately and he was right. I don’t think that the temporary parking restrictions are necessarily a scam to trap people but the council certainly doesn’t mind or care if people do get ticketed; and they can only blame themselves for people’s scepticism with the way they carry on. |
