I was on the High Road yesterday and it was busy but not congested. People had continued to park in bus lanes unaware of the changes but this didn't seem to leading to jams that were any worse than seen on Sunday generally. I would still say that as a temporary measure parking restrictions on a Sunday may be justified but I'd be very upset if I got a PCN for parking in a bus lane. Don't the Council have to go through some sort of consultation and public notice process before making these changes? This morning was bad again but my impression is that Chiswick is having jams because TfL's priority is to keep the A4 flowing therefore they have changed the light phase on junctions with that road. This is leading to queues along Chiswick Lane, Barrowgate Road and Sutton Court Road which eventually reach Chiswick High Road and cause the jams. As the A4 seems to be generally clear (judging by the traffic cameras this morning) perhaps a simpler solution would be to ask TfL to give more priority to local traffic crossing the A4 particularly as more buses cross that road than use it. |
