'I’m going to step just briefly outside Council policy and post here to clarify the changes currently being implemented, but I can’t continue to discuss this issue on-line.' I suppose we should be grateful that you have chosen to comment at least once but a policy of general non-communication from Hounslow Council is shameful. 'There are no lies – the Borough knows as much about the likelihood of the bridge’s early opening as the public does. Yes, we have indeed “gone to the time, effort and expense of making all these changes” as we believe this is the appropriate course of action.' This has no logic. We are being told that the state of the flyover will not be known until next week. There has been no indication that immediate reopening is out of the question. The only appropriate action would be to wait a week to see what the investigations reveal. 'Extension of bus lane hours and restrictions on waiting & loading within bus lanes will keep the buses moving (they move as many people along CHR as private cars do) and this will help keep all traffic moving. ' It is also illogical to think that reducing road capacity is the correct response to congestion. Thankfully the increase in bus lane operation hours will have little overall impact on congestion because drivers tend not to use them even when they operate so a limited amount of capacity will actually be lost but the fines accrued from motorists who are unaware of the changes will cover the cost of the new signs. "There is no “profiteering”. There are no changes to the hours when payment is required to park." This comment left me confused as I'm sure it did others. As your engagement in this forum was a one off we are likely to remain so but presumably it means that parking on Sunday will remain free. However unless you are giving the wardens a day off profits will come from the large number of people who get tickets because they are unaware of the change. |
