| "Too many people expect the state to pay for them they didn’t back post war." Now there's is a sweeping generalisation Jane. While I won't dispute there are people who expect the state to pay for them, what proportion of the UK expect the state to pay for them? It's probably still too high, but putting them to one side, what about everyone else? What about those who don't expect the state to pay but still find themselves among the less well off? https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-7484/ Income inequality is higher now than it was in the 60s and 70s. My take is that plenty of people with money want to ensure it stays that way, because the only way the people with less get some more is if that comes from the people with more. |
