Richard, My understanding of the history of Selous Street is it was renamed because the street housed the offices of the anti-apartheid movement in London. There is a pretty good mural to Nelson Mandela on the side of that building. The records show that they even left the old street name up although I don’t think it is there now. I used to work just around the corner. I had to Google the Lane reference, I doubt many people would advocate changing that name back now. I guess that’s a part of our history that we don’t need street names or statues to remember. |
