"..I would like it to include our time in India and the role of the Honourable East India Company.." To understand that, you would really need to look at the story of the Mughal Empire and the Delhi Sultanate, and the condition of India before the European involvement (which also involved the Portuguese and the French). History does not begin at a convenient date. As another example, the story of ancient Egypt was covered at my school, but that story seemed to peter out with the Ptolemies, Cleopatra and the Roman takeover. Finding books that covered the story of the past two millennia in that country was rather harder than ones covering the three preceding ones, but to understand modern Egypt that knowledge is vital. The replacement of the ancient beliefs in Ra, Amun, Isis etc. with Christanity and Islam is intriguing. |
