Justin, the first starting point would be to actually teach the relevant histroy and events, currently there is a yawning gap. The current curriculum and obsession with monarchy should be updated(I am not against the Monarchy). There is of course then the question of what to replace it with, but the last 200 plus years of British history is a great place to start, from Empire to world wars. Its important for students to learn perspective, that history is written by the victors, but equally that society had different perspectives and views in the past. |
