It isn't illegal for a cyclists to cross using a Zebra. The Highway Code makes no specific reference to doing this but does state that cyclists can use Toucan crossing. My experience of using the zebras in Chiswick are that cyclists are almost universally considerate as I myself try to be when I am on a bike. If there is a problem, it is with delivery riders and they are under pressure to ride quickly as part of their job so I'm inclined not to get too wound up by them. It only takes a fraction of a second for a cyclist to cross the crossing so, even though it might be your right of way what harm is it if you wave someone through? At the same time, if I want the cyclist to stop at a zebra I avoid giving the impression that I have noticed them and they invariably will. |
