| The Bedlington, Fauconberg Road. It had a wonderful eccentricity about it, owing to the fact that despite its name, which had simply been left unchanged, it was a wonderful, family-run Thai restaurant. In the mornings it was the sort of local greasy-spoon that its name suggested, but in the evening it came into its own - a place where you could get delicious, family-made Thai food, with charming service and ridiculously low prices. The furniture and décor were utilitarian, but the experience and atmosphere were a delight. And of course they had no alcohol licence, so you just brought along the booze you wanted and paid a corkage fee. Really sorry to see it go. |
