| "Your statements just show what a pompous twat you really are.." Pompous - yes, I can live with that. Twat - nah. The two together just don't compute. "You really think that those who live on benefits or low incomes want less or have children less deserving." Er - its a two part question. I certainly never said that those on benefits or low incomes have children less deserving. I would never ever subscribe to that. I also don't think that those on benefits or lower incomes WANT less. However, they have to come to terms with austerity and appreciate that we ALL have to accept that we have to cope with less. "You live in a world where you can borrow £60,000 to pay for private school" Nope - I never said that. You must be confusing me with someone else. I certainly did not borrow £60K "Those who scrape by or are placed in clearing are often those students who went to the bog standard state school." Again you choose to misinterpret what I say. Just study the figures for Hounslow Borough state schools and see just how many of our students from state schools gained entry to Oxbridge, Warwick, Bristol, Bath, Durham, Exeter, Nottingham etc. All with excellent results who got their first choice and they got into Halls BECAUSE of their academic achievement. You seem to be saying that it doesn't matter of a student got A*s and B's - they should be placed into a lottery with all those who achieved C's and D's so there is equal opportunity for the good Uni's and guarantee of Halls for everybody irrespective of school achievement? "I also don’t think it makes you a yuppie if you have to live on £10,000 per year - which includes your accommodation, food, fares, heating, bills, etc... I would like to see you live on that income." I couldn't live on an income of £10K but I can assure you if my daughter told me she needed that sum of money to live as a student to cover food, accommodation etc, I would tell her exactly where to get off. I would also ask her what drugs she was on! "Also in Feb I am making a huge sculpture in Liverpool, on the original speaker’s corner, outside St George’s Hall, to commemorate the live of a suffragette – Mary Bamber. So I guess my lack of the English language has not held me back in my career." That's great Carrie. And I say this genuinely and sincerely. You are obviously very good at what you do and you are a success story but I guess you half make my point for me. There are degrees and there are degrees and they all have a place in our society in my opinion. I just happen to believe that the values placed on different degrees is different and the quality of higher education offered by the various institutions should be recognised at face value. I also hope you can understand the frustration of some at the vandalism and civil disobedience our society has endured over the last few weeks, which you appear to promote. I hope therefore you will stand back and consider your own feelings if your sculpture of Mary Bamber was paint-balled by some right wing thug. |
