| Meanwhile the questions remain for the English taxpayer - who is to pay for higher education fees and how? Great if a minority of students and sixth formers want to go on a few demos - we know what they don't want but what is it that they are demonstrating for? A graduate tax that Labour (and the NUS president)seemed to be favouring before May? An ongoing charge on general taxation? What is the fairest alternative? There has to be a recognition by students and their puppet-meisters that "fairest" does not necessarily mean the option that costs students the least. Finally, for those contributors who cannot tell the difference between a repayable one off loan to the Irish State and an ongoing commitment to fund university fees in perpetuity - perhaps you should go and brush up on your knowledge of economics and public finance before posting such obviously "pants" comments on this forum. |
