| Ok Carrie let me be really patronising. Your argument appears to revolve around this little nugget that you posted earlier. "we can pay for higher education if we free ourselves from being slaves to the bankers. Instead of continuing to produce money with interest and debt attached to it, we have to take control of the supply of money." So that is really easy then we should all stick our fingers in our ears and go "la,la, la,la" and all these nasty grown up problems will go away. Meanwhile back in the real world the Government continues to spend more than it raises in taxes by a huge margin. All British Governments do this - it is not a Labour Tory thing. The Tories historically do less of it but all politicians love to buy votes, invade other people's countries and build monuments to folly (and get someone else to pay for it). Over the next five years this Government says that it plans to sell £700 billion in gilts. The spending plans as announced reduced this by £100 billion i.e. down from £800 billion. These are huge numbers and we have never been there before. Financially we are in deep do-do and there is no guarantee that pension funds, banks and foreign governments will be prepared to stump up the dosh as and when required. A collapse in external funding for the British Government may be unpleasant to contemplate but that does not mean that it cannot happen. I will avoid being even more patronising by giving you a list of European countries on the verge of fiscal and monetary meltdown. If you wish to respond to these email Carrie please feel free to call me Sean if you wish. However do not call me a fascist or some other name calling jibe - that is just kiddies play ground politics. I am practical person who happens to be an elected representative. What I am seeking is ways out of the collective mess that we are in. Frankly I do not see a lot of light at the end of tunnel no matter which bunch of politicians is "pulling the levers". My bunch just happen to have a better understanding of the numbers and what they mean for real people including students. |
