| So it was irresponsible of the Labour government to spend £137 billion on mitigating the effects of the 2008 financial crisis but perfectly reasonable for the Conservative government to spend three times that in mitigating the effects of the pandemic? Moreover, despite all those years of George Osborne's "necessary" austerity, public debt went up as a percentage of GDP. |
