| If people are deemed not to have a legitimate reason to be here then they are repatriated. That has always been the way. Asylum seekers are not ´ under the law, illegal immigrants as their cases are being assessed. Jayne, people seeking asylum are not allowed to work and have about £5 a day to live off. The UK is the nineteenth preferred destination for asylum seekers so it’s not that desirable when there are eighteen countries ahead of the UK. If the government made safe and legal routes for asylum seekers then the people smugglers will be out of business. The Home Office needs to process applications thoroughly and in a timely manner, not bang people up in desperately overcrowded centres like Manston and not abandon people with no money and no accommodation in the middle of London like they did a couple of days ago. Braverman made a policy decision not to secure hotel accommodation for people at Manston. As a direct result of that decision, the desperate overcrowding happened. There is no justification for letting people sleep on floors in tents for months when there is a solution whilst the HO assesses applications. |
