| "Any change in policy should be evidence based." There can be little doubt that if alcohol and tobacco were to be invented tomorrow, they would be made illegal. I seem to recall that LSD was legal for a short while in the 1960s before Harold Wilson's Labour government banned it. Being TP, he struggles to complete a post without having a crack at the present government, but the fact is that the UK's drug laws have not been fit for purpose for many years, whichever party is in power. I recall being told by a police officer in around 1969 that they weren't interested in chasing people who smoked recreational cannabis, but they took heroin much more seriously. |
