"This is also why cycle lanes have to be physically separated from motor vehicles on main roads" Why bother. Cyclists will still use the pavement and the roadway with impunity caring not one iota for the safety of others around them. Case in point last night, walking home just outside the Village Vet I saw a guy weaving his cycle on the pavement. In front of me were new parents with twins in a doublewide pram. he had to swerve to miss them which got him in line with me. I said simply "cycle lane is just there" and he let loose on me. I got the "cocksucker" and "get COVID and die." Perfectly able-bodied guy with an expensive enough bike to know what he was doing. There is no excuse. I don't get the bit about how we all must care about safety for some, but not for all. That said, I'm looking forward to cycling accountability. I couldn't help but notice with the e-scooter trials they've sorted out how to monitor those with driving licenses (let's call it road training) and vehicle identity numbers. Not rocket science, was it? |
