You can't have seasonal or timed restrictions if drivers are just going to ignore or pretend they don't understand basic signage. The solution is hard modal filters. There are only two new traffic restrictions that are working in Chiswick: Harvard Hill and Staveley Road because drivers can't ignore barriers. Drivers who don't like hard barriers being put in on Chiswick streets can blame all the illegal drivers flouting the rules instead of the usual scapegoats. All the many old restrictions in Chiswick work very well according to the same principle. This is also why cycle lanes have to be physically separated from motor vehicles on main roads. Cars just park and drive in them if they are not physically separated regardless of whatever legal restrictions may be in place. |
