Is this a new idea that we can ignore road signs unless there's a camera there to see us do it? Would we drive through a 'No Entry' sign if nothing appeared to be coming the other way? Would we go to the other side of a Keep Left sign if there was nothing coming the other way? Would we drive down the other side of the A4 if our side was clogged with traffic and the other side was clear? Probably not, as it would be dangerous because other traffic and pedestrians wouldn't be expecting us. It's the same with Devonshire and Fisher Lane. If traffic regards the new restriction signs as optional, then it's actually more dangerous for pedestrians who no longer expect any through traffic on these roads, but there is. As I tried to explain to a family happily cycling the wrong way down Devonshire Road, oblivious to the signs to the contrary, as I stepped out in front of them. |
