I didn’t say “there isn’t that much traffic going through the retail bit of Devonshire Rd” because I don’t know how much traffic is going through the retail bit of Devonshire Rd. I have data from a traffic survey done last year on the area bounded by CHR, Sutton Court Rd, A4 and Devonshire Rd so can provide excruciating detail on the streets within this area but not Devonshire Rd itself. The primary objective of restricting through traffic on Devonshire Rd is to boost retail on the street. This is by providing retailers more space to expand onto the street and creating a more attractive area for people to visit. There are lots of examples all over London where this has been done. Clearly more people visiting and shopping on Devonshire Rd will have an impact upon residents. However I don’t see why residents living near a shopping street should have an absolute veto on any measures to improve shopping on that street. |
