I don't think paving TGT is the answer. If traffic is to decrease, in better times people will have to use public transport more and it would create a long diversion for the E3 bus. By all means buses and cabs only but that would still create huge bottlenecks in Fisher's Lane and other routes onto the High Road from North Chiswick. There are huge contradictions in the advice we are getting. "Drive more as it's safer". But then they are looking at blocking off roads which will increase congestion. "Cycle more" so they are narrowing the pavements to create cycle lanes on them. "Walk more and we are widening the pavements to allow for more people to walk and social distance at the same time." No they are not, they are narrowing them to make space for cycle lanes. If they take the space from the road instead for cycle lanes (unlikely), and block other entrances to the high road from North South congestion, and therefore pollution and road rage, will increase in leaps and bounds, especially now that more people are likely to follow the government advice to drive more to stay safe. "It's safer to eat outside than in a restaurant." Restaurants with outside space will have to severely curtail the number of tables they can currently have outside due to the new cycle lane. Joined up thinking is sadly lacking. |
