There are predictions of doom every time motor traffic is restricted. For example, Orford Rd in Waltham Forest. Before parking and through traffic was stopped a coffin was carried to signify the death of the street but now it is a thriving and pleasant local shopping street with reduced empty lots. It is easy to see the improvement on google street view. Parking and through traffic has just been stopped on Broadway Market Hackney. It appears to be thriving. https://twitter.com/Hackneycyclist/status/1267089495494660101?s=20 I expect that “Chiswick exceptionalism” will mean claims that things working in other areas of London can never, ever work in Chiswick. “Duke Road, which cannot support increased traffic“ What is the basis for your claim? Pre-COVID traffic on Duke Rd was measured at about 1500 cars a day with a southbound peak of about 70 vehicles per hour in the morning and northbound peak of about 125 cars per hour in the afternoon. In comparison, Dukes Ave has about double the traffic. |
