I share your concerns, Penny. The only details on the Hounslow website are at https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/news/article/1039/council_proceeds_at_pace_with_hounslow_streetspace_initiatives_to_reallocate_road_space_to_pedestrians_and_cyclists_and_create_more_space_for_businesses_to_safely_reopen It says that traffic on Devonshire Road will be limited to "essential servicing". But there is no mention of how Prince of Wales Terrace will be affected, including Capital Motors and resident parking there. Nor does it explain how far south the restrictions will apply; is it just as far as Glebe Street or beyond? If Devonshire Road is blocked to through traffic, the only access from the north into the 500 households of the Glebe Estate will be via Duke Road, which cannot support increased traffic. It's all very well wanting to carry out changes without endless consultation, and indeed I'm willing to put up with some inconvenience if it helps local businesses to recover from the lockdown, but this looks like a change that might well become permanent. In which case, the wider impacts do need to be considered. The news item on this site said "The Council is expanding the number of Streetspace projects across the borough based on ‘hundreds’ of responses to a recent consultation. They say by far the largest number related to the Chiswick Town Centre area." That consultation is still live until 25 June; you can give your views at https://hounslowstreetspace.commonplace.is/ |
