| And as a separate point. OF COURSE Johnson wants to lower workers' rights, environmental protection, consumer protection, capital adequacy rules to protect the banking sector (or more accurately to protect us all against the banking sector playing fast and loose again). That is the one and only reason for Brexit (apart from "getting rid of the foreigners", which is the proxy reason used to garner support). And of course a Labour government could raise standards again UNLESS in the meantime we had signed a trade agreement with the USA that bound us, as a matter of international law, to those lower standards. Then we are stuffed, in perpetuity. Which is, of course, the entire plan. Brexit is a con. It seems that you can fool some of the people quite a lot of the time. Just see the comments on this forum from people supporting Brexit who are demonstrably uninformed about the details (in some cases apparently deliberately and proudly so). |
