| So what you’re saying is that the EU *don’t* dictate our laws and regulations, I’m glad you’ve finally worked that one out. They set *minimum* standards which we are perfectly free to improve on. The point being of course that only membership of a supranational body can bind the hands of future parliaments. So whilst your point that if a Tory administration (if!) deregulated then a subsequent Labour one could reregulate is perfectly valid, it rather ignores all the suffering that would be caused by said deregulation in the first place. One of the reasons membership of a supranational body setting minimum standards that all member states are free to build upon is such a good idea. |
