| Although Steve may have missed in on his regular trips back in the day, multiple buses crossing at the same time was a major issue. I believe the initial weight restrictions were introduced after the IRA bomb weakened the structure but buses were exempted with the stipulation that only one at a time would cross. This was widely ignored, hence the introduction of the traffic light system. However drivers, no doubt under pressure from bus companies to keep to schedule, widely ignored the lights. Local residents groups complained on many occasions about this even sending monitors out to record what was happening right up to the bridge closure. |
