This is a misrepresentation of what he said and grossly unfair. You may have your own good reasons for disliking Francis but some of your responses to him verge on irrational and or motivated by pure spite. His suggestion was that some cyclists may prefer the bridge to reopen to traffic because they'd rather share it with motor vehicles than pedestrians. He is probably broadly right although I don't think I could go along with the claim that this would represent the view of a 'significant proportion'. What he has done though is demonstrated that cycling over the bridge was always acceptably risk free and debunked your claim of a fatality having taken place on the bridge. Rather than ignoring the serious collisions taking near the bridge, he has shown that they have actually increased since closure which undermines your assertion that there are nothing but safe routes for anyone crossing. If you want to describe the Castelnau LTN as such that is fine but the numbers suggest it hasn't reduced cyclist safety and has created HTNs in other areas south of the river as well as a large public transport blackspot. The only benefit here seems to be a further boost to the value of the multi-million pound homes that line the road. |
