| The Albert Bridge has a three tonne limit which means no buses or lorries. The 'Soldiers Must Break Step' sign showed that there were concerns about its weight bearing even before the arrival of the motor vehicle. If we are about to be told that there are structural issues which would lead to it being permanently closed to motor traffic for similar reasons to Hammersmith Bridge, it'll raise some interesting dilemmas. The bridge is owned by the City of London Corporation so the hope would be that it hasn't been subject to the long term neglect that Hammersmith Bridge was but, if it does require government money for restoration, it would be difficult to justify doing that before Hammersmith Bridge is funded. |
