It isn't "some" of the bridges over the Thames with reduced traffic compared to before Covid. It is every single bridge between Twickenham Bridge and Tower Bridge. Reduced volumes do not necessarily mean lower speeds, quite the opposite. The thing most responsible for slowing down cars is other cars. Similarly higher speeds mean fewer vehicles per unit of time because of the greater separation between vehicles. If you want to maximise traffic volumes then people in London should be driving golf buggies, not monster SUVs. Of course the politicians would welcome a "get out" than means they can pull the plug on any prospects of the bridge being restored to motor traffic. |
