What you describe as unverified hearsay and verbal anecdotes appears to be both Conway and council officers telling anyone who cares to ask that there is no issue with the bridge's pilings. If you don't believe this to be the case address the question to both yourself and I'm confident you will get confirmation. I can't tell you what the detailed design proposals are for the bridge but they would have been part the council's submissions to the Department for Transport as would the conclusions of the Fugro report. While we don't know what they say, we do know that there is nothing in them that rules out the opening from an engineering point of view because the DfT Minister is actively considering funding the project. Heidi Alexander is a competent minister who understands her brief and it is preposterous to suggest she would raise people's hopes on this matter if there was a report sitting on her desk that stated the reopening of Hammersmith Bridge was unviable. |
