It didn't escape notice that there was nothing from any of the local MPs after the latest Spending Review once again had nothing for the project. They'd obviously been briefed that this was in the pipeline. Earlier concerns expressed about the integrity of the original pilings seem to have been misplaced with the boreholes taken near Digby Mansions confirming that the work undertaken by Bazalgette and Tierney Clark was 'good enough' even for the proposed double decker structure. Engineers from Conway and the council have confirmed that what lies beneath isn't an issue. It looks like the key next step is the DfT's response to the business case made by the council but we can probably assume, as the minister responsible, Ms Alexander has had a sneak peek at that and the outcome is positive. |
