| People leave their on-the-go coffee cups and drinks cans ON TOP of bins instead of putting them INTO them. They leave their food and drinks waste beside a bench instead of walking a few steps to the litter bin within sight. Ealing has some lovely children's drawings made into posters in their parks and also at least one on reducing the volume of it ie how to fold up a pizza box so it fits in a litter bin. Crows, magpies and seagulls remove bags from bins, break into them and spread the contents across parks too. Haven't you seen the film of the seagull stealing bags of crisps from inside a shop? Squirrels get into the lidded bins at Kew make a racket inside and jump out again. Then there are also cats, dogs, foxes and rats who are interested in food packaging and leftovers some of which is poisoned or poisonous to them. Remember that people also get into bin stores and bins to shelter snd sleep and every so often lose their lives as a result. Always try and reduce the amount of necessary packaging that you buy and don't buy too much food and drink.. It's easy to keep a small folded or rolled up carrier in the bottom of a bag or rucksack. Challenge yourself (and your friends) to make as little waste as possible! The less you make the easier it is to leave OUR increasingly precious and dwindling green spaces as you'd like to find them. |
